Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has partnered with Vision Techniques to install new safety equipment.

The council has adopted the new Banksman Auto Braking 77ghz Radar in order to boost the safety of its fleet.

If the radar detects something in its view, the system will give the driver an audible and visual warning. However, if the driver does not react the system will automatically apply the brakes, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

Cliff Brown, Assistant Transport Manager at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, said: ‘The new Banksman Auto Braking 77ghz Radar is far superior than any other systems we have had previously. As a local authority, we have a responsibility for creating a safe environment for our people to work in and making our vehicles the safest they can be.

‘The safety of road users is something we take very seriously. We have warning lightboards on our vehicles along with the VT Night Sight HD cameras on a 4 camera DVR system. Their innovations enhance our fleet safety and they always maintain excellent customer service, that's why we partner with Vision Techniques.’

Dave Smith, General Manager at Vision Techniques, added: ‘Our partnership with Blackburn and Darwen Borough Council is long-standing, we're proud to support Cliff and his team by ensuring they have the best safety features available and helping them drastically reduce the risk of accidents. The new Banksman Auto Braking 77ghz Radar system is proving to be outstanding in comparison to our previous model and we are receiving some remarkable feedback.’
