Hyndburn Borough Council has entered its fourteenth year with vehicle partner Specialist Fleet Services Ltd (SFS), having just awarded a new contract for the provision of five new refuse collection vehicles.

Working together since 2010, this is the fourth consecutive contract to be awarded by Hyndburn Borough Council to contract hire and fleet management specialists SFS.

Bob Sweetland, Managing Director, SFS said: ‘We pride ourselves on establishing long-standing relationships with our customers and we achieve this by investing time and resources to understand every aspect of their operations and the challenges they face. We are thrilled to be fleet partners to Hyndburn Borough Council for the fourteenth year running.’

The new fleet of RCVs, manufactured by Dennis Eagle, are due to arrive in September 2024, and include new safety technology, to comply with the EU General & Pedestrian Safety Regulation (GSR), ahead of new mandatory regulations coming into force in July 2024.

The council has introduced driver recognition wrist bands to prevent unauthorised vehicle usage and LIVE 360-degree camera systems to allow monitoring of the vehicles and crews in real-time during operations.

As with the rest of the council’s fleet, the new vehicles will run on HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Fuel Oil) and feature Terberg electric bin lifts, which offer an additional 12% fuel saving.

Michael Ainsworth, Transport Manager, Hyndburn Borough Council: ‘SFS has consistently provided a great service in terms of quality and price, and the support they provide is excellent. These new upgraded vehicles give us the opportunity to further enhance the safety of the public and our crews, and bring us nearer to our target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030.’
