A council investigation has been launched after a bin lorry operative was run over by his own refuse collection vehicle in Walsall.

Paramedics rushed the man to hospital Tuesday afternoon after the incident. He reportedly sustained serious facial and chest injuries.

Walsall Council has launched in investigation into what happened.

A council spokesperson told the Express & Star: ‘The safety of our workforce is of paramount importance to us, and we are progressing a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and are working closely with the relevant authorities.

‘Our primary concern at this time is the well-being of those staff affected both directly and indirectly by the incident. Out of respect for the privacy of our staff member and their family, we will not be disclosing the nature or severity of the injuries sustained.

‘We kindly ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.’
