The contract commenced on 1 April and some of the new vehicles – 10 x 26t Dennis Eagle refuse vehicle fitted with Terberg bin lifts – have already been delivered in time for the start date.

The remaining vehicles, which are due for delivery in September/October include 17 x 3.5t Ford caged tippers and a proportion of electric vehicles, the details of which are yet to be announced.

Dedicated technical teams will maintain the new fleet from SFS’ depots in Kettering and Wellingborough.

SFS has been working with the unitary authority since its formation in 2021, when existing customers Kettering and Corby Borough Councils merged with Wellingborough and East Northants Councils to become North Northamptonshire Council

Cllr Graham Lawman, North Northamptonshire Council’s executive member for Highways, Travel and Assets, said: ‘We are very pleased to be updating our fleet at North Northamptonshire Council with SFS, especially as we have been able to move to some electric vehicles, where possible. These new vehicles, along with the service back up, will allow us to continue serving our customers throughout the area and provide residents with an excellent waste and recycling service.’

Bob Sweetland, managing director, SFS: ‘Winning this contract is great news and we are delighted to be North Northamptonshire Council’s fleet partner. We look forward to continuing to deliver an effective, value for money fleet replacement, maintenance, and management service to the authority.’
