Biffa installs second CDEnviro road sweepings recycling system

Biffa Waste Services has introduced an advanced recycling system from CDEnviro at its Meece landfill site, near Stone in Staffordshire, to treat and recover aggregates from road sweepings.

The new facility will help local councils and commercial waste producers to maximise the potential of this waste stream and divert it from landfill.

John Orchard, of Biffa Waste Services, said: ‘Following the successful installation and operation of the recycling system at Brookhurst Wood in 2016 we were confident in CDEnviro’s ability to replicate a twin system at the Meece landfill site.

‘The system is both robust and practical for us, while helping achieve our waste targets.’

The CDEnviro system has been developed to receive and treat up to 25 tonnes per hour of road sweepings and residual waste. It cleans and separates the incoming waste to produce recyclable and reusable materials.

It consists of a reception hopper for the feed material, a trommel pre-screen and the HYDRO:GRADE product that washes, scrubs and screens the waste material before further dewatering occurs.

The Meece facility has the addition of a water treatment solution, the CDEnviro HYDRO:FLO. This ensures clean water will be recycled around the system continuously in an effort to reduce waste water in the system.

By maximising their reception capacity, the Meece landfill site can offer treatment of contaminated materials previously sent to landfill.

Road sweepings and gully waste have been realised as a valuable resource for recovery and reuse.
