Waste management operator Grundon has fitted a new lighting system to its vehicle fleet for improved visibility during night time work.

Designed and supplied by Labcraft, the Banksman light is positioned on each side of the chassis and produces a bright carpet of light around the vehicle when reverse gear is engaged.

'So far we've fitted the Banksman to 130 trade-waste vehicles and front-end loaders,' said regional operations manager Anthony Tattersall.

'They operate at around 100 locations per day and often in poor light or darkness, where they are reversing up to 70% of the time. Our objective was to find a solution which would enable drivers to see as clearly as possible to reduce accident risk'

The Banksman projects a white light at a 90o angle from the vehicle sides onto the surrounding area and illuminates up to 30m2. The high-intensity Cree LED lamp is waterproof, hard-wearing and guaranteed by Labcraft for 10 years.

'The ROI is a no-brainer,' added Anthony.

'This degree of close-quarter vision produced by just two lights on each vehicle not only improves safety but also will reduce downtime and minimise repair costs going forward. Also, the system is easy and quick to retrofit which means minimum time off the road'

Founded in 1929, Grundon is one of the largest privately-owned waste management companies in the UK, providing an end-to-end management service for the reduction, reuse, recycling, recovery and disposal of numerous waste products.

Labcraft designs and manufactures a range of high quality LED lights based in Saffron Walden, Essex. All aspects of product design are carried out in-house and all LED products are manufactured in their own factory.
