Arriva's Green Commitment

Published:  23 February, 2012

Protecting the environment is everyone's responsibility, and is something that is an integral part of the culture of one of the most well-established and well-respected rental companies in the UK.

Arriva Vehicle Rental has been awarded the highly sought-after environmental management standard ISO 14001 and is the only rental company in the UK to have achieved such recognition.

With a fleet of some 12,000 vehicles across the UK and employing around 700 people, Arriva Vehicle Rental carries out a range of activities and uses many products that have the potential to impact on the environment.

Recognising this, the company has designed and developed its own environmental management system to ensure that it controls any impact it may have. A series of policies and procedures have been introduced to reduce the risk of pollution incidents, to improve health and safety across the company, and to improve the efficiency in the use of materials.

The company is not complacent and knows that even though it has been successful in achieving the accreditation, the work does not stop there. As part of the system, a process of continual improvement and development is in place to ensure that high standards are maintained.

Safety Operations Manager Deborah Greenall tells LAPV: “As one of the UK's leading rental companies, we are aware of our responsibilities to the environment and reducing any potential impact that we may have is an integral part of our culture and operating practices.

“Achieving this ISO 14001 accreditation demonstrates our sound management practices, which we know make good business sense.”

Experienced in Rental

Arriva Vehicle Rental's customer base ranges from local authorities, utility companies, and service solution providers, to public authorities and major corporations across the UK, so it is important that Arriva Vehicle Rental's environmental standards are second to none.

The company has an extensive rental fleet, which comprises of both cars and commercial vehicles. The fleet ranges from small cars up to executive vehicles and from car-derived vans to many specialist vehicles including panel, short and longwheeled base, semi-high and high roof vans, tippers, dropsides and specially adapted wheelchair accessible minibuses.

All vehicles available for rent are covered from breakdown by the AA/RAC and are subject to a 60-point pre-rental check prior to delivery.
