Electra Commercial Vehicles, the electric HGV manufacturer, saw the birth of its first production glider chassis made by Mercedes-Benz and its parent company Daimler in Germany to an agreed specification this August.

The production of a factory glider chassis means Electra can fit the EV components into the truck chassis without having to remove the diesel drivetrain and other associated components.

From a customer perspective, this means a faster production schedule, lower overall costs and less hassle involved with removed driveline components and their eventual reuse or recycling.

Sid Sadique the Group Chairman for Electra Commercial Vehicles commented ‘Electra is one of the first companies in the world involved in the manufacturing of electric vehicles to have great factory partners like Mercedes Benz and its parent Daimler AG who can produce bespoke chassis units for the emerging market. This agreement opens the door for Electra to provide its customers the best in class of heavy truck for use in cities and help tackle the clean air crisis we are all facing.'
