Stocks Sweepers – Expertise combined with innovation

Published:  17 October, 2014

Over the past sixteen years Stocks Sweepers Ltd has created a successful track record of which even the most discerning management teams would be proud. Going from strength to strength, Stocks Sweepers is extremely well respected for its quality equipment and has uniquely raised the bar by producing affordable, reliable and extremely durable road sweepers. Still British-owned and managed, Stocks is rapidly becoming one of the world's most successful independent manufacturers of truck-mounted road sweepers.

The company really started to get traction in late 2009 after it unveiled two new models - the S6400 and S8400 series heavy-duty truck-mounted suctionroad sweepers. Both contractors and local authorities from all over the UK greeted these models with open arms. Word spread far and wide, and currently the demand for export sales is growing stronger than ever on an annual basis. Stocks Sweepers now has licensed agents in Australia, Italy, France, Poland, USA and Canada, to mention just a few. It is a real feat for such a young company to have an impact on the industry of this size!

A focus on customer requirements

Company founder Jeff Stock explained why his company has experienced such an accelerated growth in such limited time. ‘Years of hard work and a meticulous attention to customer feedback has ensured our excellent position in the industry. We will always listen to what our customers say and this will allow us to evolve and produce sweepers that we are truly proud of, which are ultimately what our customers want.

‘Our latest marketing campaign is entirely focused around demonstrating our sweepers to councils and contractors who have not seen them before. Our machines are out there in demonstrating their excellent performance and durability to the market, so new customers can see for themselves just how good they are. Fundamentally every business has its own proposition and market place, but when you can dovetail your proposition with the consumers needs successfully it guarantees a winning product and that all important long term relationship.'

A brand new production facility

‘There are big changes on the road ahead for Stocks and these are literally just up the road! To keep up with demand - specifically export demand - Stocks is moving its production lines into a new site, eight times larger than presently occupied by the company,' said Tim Hegarty head of business development.

‘There are many challenges to overcome when growing a business, marketing, sales, operations, finance but it especially requires dynamic people who passionately believe in what they are doing. What struck me the most about Stocks Sweepers, when I joined the business in February, was that this fundamental ‘DNA' was strongly embedded across all mtiers of the business.

‘Today we are even further on our way to growing the company and enhancing our after sales capacity, and therefore will be moving our entire manufacturing facility in the next six weeks. The number of international enquiries are off the chart, so much so that signing up new foreign dealers has been strategically stalled to enable backend operations to be embedded into the new facility. This is just an exciting place to be right now,' said Tim.

Stocks Sweepers is utilising the latest technology in its products and is aiming to stay abreast of any new developments. This might seem like a tough job, but the company succeeds every time, so the Stocks S6400 and S8400 road sweepers can be supplied with either a Stocks' standard control box set-up, or via Stocks' new and unique CANbus operator iSS (intelligent sweep system) coupled with a purpose-design and built 'iSweep' controller. Both units are installed with operator ergonomics in mind and are fingertip controlled. Together they can store a number of your favourite sweep configurations, service and maintenance settings, and even a full Stocks parts catalogue along with other important information if required. The system also has a built-in self-diagnostic facility to help keep the down time to an absolute minimum for the sweeper, which is going down a storm with new customers.

An innovative leaf collection system

There is another ‘technological' storm brewing at Stocks Sweepers - the new Tempest system is just the perfect tool for the Autumn season ahead.UK Sales Manager Jeremy Ramsdale explains the benefits of technology, which was developed completely in-house. ‘Tempest is a simple yet effective way of removing leaf litter from road surfaces. Utilising the air stream from the sweepers vacuum exhaust the expelled air is re-circulated and directed back down in front of the vehicle, just in front of the sweep path of the vehicle. This blows the loose organic matter back over verges where it can mulch down naturally without the need to fill up landfills, add extra wear and tear to the sweeper and of course not wasting operator hours driving to waste sites. Its goes down a storm with operators particularly when they can see how easily they can adjust the flow direction from the cab. Its an extremely popular option with more remotely located authorities as it reduces so much landfill trip time, we are starting to see about half of all our machines leave our factory with this option.

British owned, British made

Stocks Sweepers is great British story of innovation combined with engineering expertise based in an area of the country renowned and awarded for rural regeneration. Stocks' drive to become one of the largest players in the municipal sweeper market has a very positive effect on the employment rate in the company's local area of Gloucestershire, where the factory extension plans were received with open arms. Stocks is ambitious in its goals, and is always looking for dynamic industry professionals who share its vision. So do get in touch if you want to be part of Stock's passionate and committed team.
