Surrey-based Chambers Waste Management has fitted its 40-vehicle fleet with integrated weighing equipment and software to streamline its operations.

The waste management, recycling and aggregates company runs skip loaders, rear-end loaders (RELs), trade waste refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), flatbed trucks and tankers, as well as a fleet of tipper trucks that have been fitted with underbody weighing.

The underbody weighing equipment, Loadweigh, is from Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS) and Chambers has also installed the Enviroweigh bin-weighing system from VWS to its RCVs. As a result, it has access to specific data about customers' collections and recycling behaviour, which in turn enables more accurate charging.

Managing director Peter Chambers, said: 'We want to ensure our vehicles are not overloaded as well as protect our drivers and operatives, especially when they are on a site with no weighing facilities'

The company is also introducing VWS's Purgo software in phases to streamline its operations and allow for continued business growth.

Peter added: “Purgo is going to help us improve our customer service by giving us access to live data, including real time reports from drivers while they are on their rounds. It has an on-approach notification feature alerting our team when a vehicle is due to arrive on site and an encrypted credit card facility for immediate payment transactions'

VWS managing director Julian Glasspole said: 'We aim to provide a comprehensive integrated weighing solution to vehicle operators and we identified the need for a bespoke back office system when we decided to develop Purgo. We have a long standing partnership with Chambers and, as with all our customers, we work closely with them to make sure that our systems provide the precise information they need, how they need it and when they need it'
