Rushcliffe Borough Council has taken delivery of an Omnideka Electric bin hoist from Terberg Matec UK.

Terberg is part of the Nottinghamshire Vehicle Procurement Consortium, of which Rushcliffe Borough Council is a member, and the company has recently secured a third consecutive four-year framework agreement with the procurement group. The agreement commenced in April 2017 and is made up of 13 local authorities.

The consortium was formed with the aim of delivering greater efficiency through the formation of strong partnership agreements with suppliers.

The Omnideka Electric is an automatic, low voltage, high-level electric bin hoist that combines a robust build with safe operation and efficiency. Requiring only a 24v power supply, it can deliver savings in fuel and COâ‚‚ emissions and contributes to noise reduction with operational levels below 57dB(A) ' around the same volume as a normal conversation.

The council has been purchasing electric bin hoists since 2013, and Mick Morley, Recycling2go team leader at Rushcliffe Borough Council, said: 'Operators like the Omnideka Electric and have noticed faster cycle times than standard high level bin hoists. The products will be operating on rounds previously undertaken by vehicles with earlier models of bin lift, which will help us to monitor performance and carry out like-for-like comparisons. This is expected to show further efficiency improvements'

The EN 1501-5-compliant Omnideka Electric is suitable for a wide variety of applications and is fitted with a rear protective device with intelligent sensors that won't be affected by adverse weather. It offers flexibility in mounting heights ranging from 1150-1675mm, has a ground clearance of 450mm, a high lifting capacity, and fast lifting and discharge cycle times.

The vehicle's soft lift kinematics reduce the risk of container damage. In addition, kinetic energy is stored in the chair mechanics during the lifting cycle, providing an energy-free chair return under gravity, saving energy and keeping wear and tear to a minimum.
