An integrated radar to reduce blind spots on large plant and construction machinery has been launched by Brigade.
The Backsense Networked Radar allows operators to connect and link to up to eight radars for improved coverage around the machine.
This is designed to reduce the distraction that numerous in-cab displays for multiple radars can cause to drivers. It also improves driver manoeuvrability and reduces the risk of collision.
The new development is aimed at original equipment manufacturers and specialist application markets. Detection information is delivered by Can Bus and can be integrated into existing vehicle systems or used to control aspects of the machine.
Backsense emits continuous wave radar, which is faster than pulsed radar. The sensor system controls the radar beam pattern, so the spread of the beam can be restricted to the width of the plant for the length of the detection area. This minimises false alerts.
The unit is fixed to an adjustable mounting bracket so each radar head can be directed at different angles to optimise detection. Each connected radar sensor is allocated a unique identification and will transmit data for up to eight of the closest objects. The detection data is filtered to remove false alerts.
